Feeling as though you’re permanently running on empty? Refuel your mind and body so that you can feel energized and live your best life. "Our energy is not a limitless resource, but it is something we can invest back into so we aren't running on fumes" says Heidi Hanna.

Finding a balance between lifestyle, diet, exercise and sleep can be tricky and most people at the end of the day feel ‘too tired’ or ‘too busy’ to make a change. But addressing this topic is essential if you want to live a life, bursting with energy,

Eating for energy

To sustain your energy levels, especially if exercising, it is important to be eating enough of the right foods to avoid your blood-sugar levels dropping too low. Complex carbohydrates (not simple), like vegetables and whole grain products are great options and will keep you feeling fuller and more energized for longer.

Don’t wait for water

Keeping your fluids up is important to prevent dehydration, headaches and dizziness. Inadequate water intake can prevent optimal performance. Don’t wait until it’s too late, drink water consistency throughout the day to keep your body hydrated and in optimal working condition.

Movement for momentum

Believe it or not, exercise increases energy levels. It can be as simple as a walk or yoga, anything to get the blood moving, the list of positive effects of this has on our mind and body are endless. Physical activity can also help with achieving a better night’s sleep.

Don’t sweat the small stuff

We all know how stress can affect our bodies and mental state, it also uses up a lot of energy, so take all necessary measures to reduce the amount of stress you’re under. Carve out a few hours in your week to have time just for you, this will make you slow down and help to put things back into perspective.

Create your own vegan energy bowl:

1. choose your veggies (steamed greens or leafy salad greens are a good place to start)
2. select your complex carbohydrate (Quinoa, rice or sweet potato are just a few delicious options)
3. Pick your protein (tofu, beans, lentils. Veggie patties just to name a few)
4. add a healthy fat (Avocado, nut butter, tahini, nut oils)
5. Dress it up by adding some balsamic or tahini dressing
6. Missing something? Try adding some fresh herbs, seeds or almonds to add a little more character
