You might be sitting here wondering what on earth we’re talking about when we say ‘skin detox’ and why the heck you would need one. Well, over time our skin and bodies can accumulate waste and toxins which can sabotage our journey to healthy, vibrant skin. Our bodies are pretty crafty when it comes to signs and indicators, but if you don’t know how to interpret these signals than you’re going to have a hard time overcoming them.

Please, give me a sign!

Chances are your body is telling you that something is up, without you even realising. Do you experience dull, sallow or dry skin? Maybe a little skin inflammation or irritation, or how about puffy eyes and dark circles? If you’re sitting there saying “I’ve got that, and I’ve had that, and THAT!” please refrain from going into complete freak-out mode, it’s not too late to turn it around and take back your skin health. We’re coming to your rescue you and have put together a simple guide that will help your skin do a full 360 and get back on track.

Time to turn it around

We’re probably sounding like a broken record with this one, but water is one of the most effective ways we can detoxify our body from the inside out. When detoxing, we challenge you to drink half of your body weight in water per day. Drinking water speeds up out metabolism, you can even try adding some fresh lemon to promote digestion.

Go green

Get a boost with green tea, not coffee. Caffeine is considered a diuretic which means our skin can dehydrate if we are consuming too much and leave us with dark circles under our eyes and a headache up top. Another reason why we are team green tea is that that it contains powerful anti-oxidants that assist in keeping our skin looking youthful (win!).

Put the sugar down!

Sugar creeps its way into many foods and strips moisture from our cells, contributing to dryness, puffy eyes and the dreaded dark circles. Instead of reaching for foods high in sugar, try incorporating more leafy greens, fibre, protein and healthy fats into your meals (these will also help to keep you feeling satisfied for longer).

If it’s not good enough to eat, it’s not good enough for the skin

I think it’s fair to say that you wouldn’t go around eating toxins, so why would we consider applying them to our skin? It never ceases to amaze me, the number of products available on the market that are full of toxins, synthetic chemicals and preservatives and what is worse, SO many of the brands claim to be ‘natural’ (that’s a whole new blog topic in itself!). These brands, their clever marketing teams and label dressings are making it difficult for consumers to make smart decisions for their skin, so go the extra mile and look into the ingredients being used in the product and go from there. For peace of mind for our customers, we list every ingredient on our website and packaging so you can be confident that you are choosing the best for your skin.

Get that post-workout glow going

Exercise has this incredible ability to transform so many areas of our lives which is why we always harp on about it. Hands up if you experience the flushed skin after exercising?

This is caused by our heart and lungs delivery blood rich in oxygen to our muscles and skin. This increase in blood flow helps to transport nutrients to the skin which assist in collagen production (the stuff that keeps our skin plump and smooth). Exercise also uplifts our mood allowing us to unwind from a hectic day at the office or the stress of being caught in the traffic.

Extra tips and tricks

Treat yourself to a good old dry brushing to remove dead skin cells, bacteria, oils and encourage cell regeneration. This in itself will relax you and make your skin look brighter and feel smoother. Why not also give yourself permission to run a nice warm bath full of juice Epsom salts that will draw out toxins, encourage muscle repair and take you to your happy place.

We hope that you give some of these suggestions a try and encourage you to take some before and after photos to see how your skin transforms in this time. These tips are easy enough to incorporate into your daily life and by making small changes you will develop long term healthy lifestyle habits that will not only show through your skin, but your mood and how you are feeling! We’d love to hear how you go or if you have tried a skin detox before! Share your story with us in the comments below.
